Beach, North San Diego County (Swami\'s) : It had rained the night before, and as a result, the light was so clear. It was low tide, so I climbed down the stairs to the beach and set up, looking north, up the Encinitas coast, to paint one of the most loved surf spots along the California coast.

High Tide, Low Air (Along North San Diego Coast) : I painted this from the landing of the stairs at the D Street Viewpoint, in Encinitas, during a spell of unsettled weather along the southern California coast. The sky was so beautiful!

Torrey Pines : The Torrey Pines Reserve in Del Mar, California is just stunning. Miles of trails lead through gorgeous red sandstone canyons, and along bluffs that overlook exquisite stretches of beach. The preserve includes Black\'s Beach (where swimsuits are optional), the Torrey Pines Gliderport, a mecca for hang gliders, and adjacent is the world reknown Torrey Pines Golf Course. For my first painting from this overwhelmingly beautiful location, I chose to paint a portrait of the Torrey Pines themselves, and give some indication of the incredible light and color that exists there.

View from Torrey Pines
This is the second painting I've done in the Torrey Pines Preserve in Del Mar, California. In this painting, I tried to capture the scale of the sandstone canyons and cliffs which are home to the Torrey Pines, and the effect erosion has of making "pockets" in the sandstone, and of the glorious Pacific ocean, beyond. The original oil painting is 16" x 20", and is available for $2,200. It currently hangs in my living room. It is one of my favorites.
