I returned the next night, and this is the result. 18" x 14", oil painting on panel. Price includes frame.

- Dark and Stormy, Bermuda
- My travels in 2007 found me following two heroes of mine: Winslow Homer, and Edward Hopper. In the summer, I spent a week on Cape Elizabeth, Maine, painting the same lighthouses Hopper painted. While I was there, I made a pilgrimmage to nearby Prouts Neck, where Winslow Homer built his studio. Winslow Homer also painted in Bermuda, and in the fall I traveled to Bermuda as well, to celebrate the marriage of Sophie and Greg. Hurricane Noel arrived just in time to attend their wedding, too ! And then after a few glorious days, this gale approached. I painted this on Elbow Beach. It is 9" x 12", Oil on linen, on panel. Price includes frame. Click on any image to enlarge.

- Cape Breton - View from West Mabou Beach
- The next 7 paintings are from a a painting trip to beautiful Cape Breton. This was my first painting of the trip, a little 6" x 8" spontaneously done on my first morning there, just as I was starting to explore. The remnants of Hurricane Hannah were due to blow in the next day, and mindful that I might not have this light again for a couple of days, I excitedly set up my easel to capture this before continuing my exploration of the island. To my delight, 3 young Cape Bretoners, Janine, Sean and Ryan stopped by to visit while I was working, and gave me a list of locations they thought I should check out. Hi, you guys! Oil on panel, 6" x 8"; unframed. Click on any image to enlarge.

- Good Canadian Beer (and Peaches from Ontario) - Nova Scotia Still Life
- This is a funny story. The remnants of the storm lingered on for another day, so I set up this still life inside, but when I went to set up my easel to start to paint it, I discovered that the easel had been so battered by the howling wind and the pull of an umbrella I had clamped to it during the previous day"s painting of the yellow lobster boat that a set screw on one of the easel's legs no longer held the leg extended, and the easel couldn't stand up. So I packed it up and took it to the Co-op in town, where manager David MacDonald figured out a solution. Back I went to my still life, and painted the view of Port Hood Island in the background when the weather finally cleared.Thank you, David! Oil on panel, 11" x 14".

- On the Road to Margaree Harbor, Cape Breton
- Well, first I stopped at the Glenora single malt distellery outside of Inverness ... and then I painted this! I kept thinking that the west side of Cape Breton looked like a cross between Vermont and California - lots of farms, and lots of ocean. The Ingonish coast, to the east of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, looks alot like the coast of Maine (if you scroll down through the original oil paintings in this Boston and the Seacoast gallery, you'll come across paintings of the Maine coast. You'll also come across paintings from Cape Cod, Nantucket, the city of Boston, and ... Bermuda!) Oil on panel, 9" x 12", unframed.

- Mabou Inlet, Cape Breton
- Here I was, painting on the side of a very busy road, when suddenly a lovely elderly woman zooms in to the pullout where I'm set up, painting away. She peers out her car window, and exclaims, "I was so hoping you were selling blueberries!" We had such a good laugh together! I was struck by how happy and kind the people I met on Cape Breton were. I want to say hello to Diana Hawley, the Port Hood librarian, and her daughter Cheyenne, and to Alexander MacDonald, who helped me figure out how to prepare for the hurricane while we were both shopping in The Mabou Fresh Market, and whom I met again in his capacity as gallery manager for his wife, the artist Suzanne Chrysler MacDonald, at The Mabou Village Gallery. This painting is oil on masonite board, 9" x !2", and is unframed.
